The Department of Education, Government of Assam has decided to adopt a uniform Academic Calendar for School Education and directed to implement the same in all Schools of Assam.
Besides the Higher Secondary schools,the Junior Colleges and Degree Colleges of the State are imparting the Higher Secondary classes of AHSEC.But the timings of the starting the courses for XI and XII classes are not the same with those of the other stages of school education.Hence it seems to arise difficulty in completion of the curriculum areas of the +2 stage of school education in time. Therefore to bring an uniformity and overcome the difficulties, the Council has prepared an Academic Calendar for the academic session 2009-2010.It is expected that the institutions will endeavour to implement the following guidelines mentioned in the Academic Calendar to bring a qualitative academic development of the students.

The Head of the Institution should convene a meeting of the teaching staff in the beginning of the session 2009-2010 for discussion and finalizing the academic activities in the light of the Academic Calendar. The class routine should be prepared by the institution having +2 stage of education as per model routine given in Annexure –II |

The Head of the Institution shall constitute different Committees from amongst the teachers. These may be named as Examination Committee, Festival Celebration Committee, Parent Teacher Committee, Unit Test Committee, Co-curriculur Activity Committee etc.The Committee constituted for the purpose shall be responsible for smooth functioning of different programmes of the Institution |

The Head of the Institute will ask the teacher to prepare subject-wise work schedule and discuss the syllabi of the contents amongst the teachers of respective subject for proper implementation |

The daily classes in HS Schools and Junior Colleges will begin from 9.15 AM onwards as shown in the class routine. |

|
All the periods for Higher Secondary classes should not be less than 45 minutes duration in all the institutions |

|
The class routine as shown at Annexure II in the Calendar should be followed in such a manner that duration of class period and total number of classes per subject should be reduced. |

The co-curricular activities for the HS Level students meet should be held in the month of October 2009.it is expected that each and every institution will participate in the District Level Student’s Meet. |

The State Level HS Students Sports Meet will be held as per schedule of the Council. |

|
The Unit Test should be held as per schedule mentioned in the Academic Calendar. The records of such tests should be analyzed immediately after completion of each test and take necessary remedial measures for academic improvement of the student. |

Students Progress Report should be maintained properly and the parents/guardians should be apprised of the performance of the students. |

The Council will issue necessary instructions time-to-time regarding holding of HS Examinations, submission of registration forms, examination forms etc.It is expected that the Head of the Institution will take necessary steps for proper implementation of this academic calendar for obtaining desired level of academic improvement of the students in general and institution in particular. |
